Dorothy Phillips - Chair of Governors and Chair of Teaching and Learning Committee

Foundation Governor elected by Charlesworth Independent Chapel (Top Chapel)

I am a Trustee and Deacon of Top Chapel and have been a Governor at Charlesworth School for 12 years. Since 2012 and until the COVID restrictions, I have been a weekly volunteer at the school assisting with the libraries at both sites.

I was elected Chair of Governors in September 2019 - having been Vice -Chair for three years. By profession I am a qualified Social Worker and before I opted for early retirement, I had been Head of Adult Social Care with a Local Authority for 12 years, managing a multi-million pounds budget.

As part of my role, I was responsible for numerous service and staff development projects, as well as managing staff, handling complaints and dealing with issues of abuse and safeguarding.

I was also the Adult Social Care representative on the Children’s Serious Case Review Panel and the main link person with the Local Health Authorities and Hospice. I am passionately committed to ensuring that Charlesworth School remains a centre of educational excellence for local children and an integral part of village life.

My grand-daughter is currently in Year 5 at Charlesworth School and my grandson attended the school from Year 1 until he left to go to a local secondary school

Philip Whiston – Headteacher

I have been the headteacher of Charlesworth VC Primary School since my appointment in November 2020. This is my second headship, having being the Head of a primary school in East Cheshire for five years previously. I am passionate about delivering the best for each and every child that is part of our special community here at Charlesworth.

Joy Wright - Foundation Governor elected by St John's Church, Charlesworth

I have lived in Charlesworth for 7 years since retirement and during that period my grandchildren who were resident here for a short period attended Charlesworth School where they were very happy My husband and I are active members of the St John's Church Family. 

 I am a Social Worker by training and practiced for many years in Hospital, Children's and Families settings. In more recent years I have worked for 'Care for the Family' - a charity working to support families in several different contexts and prior to my retirement I worked as Children and Families Worker at St James and Emmanuel Church, Didsbury. I served as a member of the Council for Scripture Union, England and Wales for 7 years until 2018.  I have also worked for CFF (Care For the Family) from 2005 to 2010.

 I feel privileged to be able to serve the staff, children and our local community as a member of the School Governing Body and am enjoying working with an already effective and excellent group of committed people.

Kathryn Barton – Staff Governor

I have worked at Charlesworth Primary School since 2002 teaching Early Years and Year One, I am passionate about giving our children the best start to their school life, I feel privileged to be able to help develop their skills and knowledge and to encourage their enthusiasm in a safe and stimulating environment . 

I am SENDCO and a Senior Lead and really enjoy the challenges these bring, I am pleased to be able to bring my experience to the Governing Commitee to help our school to always improve and develop.

Sarah Hyde - Parent Governor

I have lived in Charlesworth for six years and have been a part of the Governing Body since July 2021. I am a primary school teacher in a local school and, in that role, have specialised in Writing and SEND. My two eldest children have attended Charlesworth Primary School, one of whom is now at High School, but my youngest son will hopefully be joining the school family in September 2023. 
I am delighted to have the opportunity to share my experience with the committee, and am committed to assisting the school in its desire to provide an enriching, broad, and balanced curriculum for our young children.
